Message from the President
A prestigious global university that fosters Sejong-type talent who challenges creative thinking and communicates with the world.
Cherished students, faculty, and staff of
Sejong University,
Since our beginning in 1940 as the Kyung Sung Humanities Institute, founded on the educational ideals 'Love, Christianity, Teaching of the People' as well as our school motto 'Creativity, Action, Virtue, Service', we held our first commencement ceremony as Sejong University in 1979 and established our place as a true prestigious private institution.
With the dedication and hard work of our staff, students, and alumni, we have come to stand l tall and strong as a world-level prestigious university where Sejong students are fostered to become creative challengers that communicate with the world.
I personally believe it is a great honor and privilege to be able to stand here as the 13th President of Sejong University, although I do not take this mantle lightly. I bear with me the heavy responsibility and mission of navigating wisely through the difficult, ever-changing competitive environment that higher education is currently placed in.
Respected students, faculty, and staff of Sejong University!
Klaus Schwab, the founder and president of the World Economic Forum (WEF), predicted in his book 'The Fourth Industrial Revolution' that there will be a great revolution in science technology which will lead to worldwide social, industrial, educational, and cultural revolution.
We are now in the middle of a 'connected society' in which information on humans and things are shared, an 'intelligent society' in which artificial intelligence is realized, and a 'blended society' in which talented individuals equipped with creativity and flexibility are fostered.
To this, Sejong University has responsibility to predict the various changes and demands of the future and not only provide education and research in accordance with the age of the fourth industrial revolution but also solve the general task of revolutionzing higher education, among which establishing harmony among each member and securing stable finances are included.
Beloved students, faculty, and staff of Sejong University!
Today, I promise you three things in order to provide the grounds for Sejong University's entrance into the Top 50 Asian Universities and Top
- First, will be 'communicating' president. I will always pay attention to the opinions of everyone at Sejong University. I firmly believe that as long as the people involved communicate face to face with open hearts, we will be able to find solution to any issue however difficult it may be.
When red, green, and blue paint is mixed we are left with black paint. However, when they are combined in light we see the color white. As such, if we manage Sejong University with the slogan of 'communication', I believe we will become university that surpasses white to become transparent.
I will establish transparent personnel management system for our staff centered on individual capacity and teamwork, and put in place an incentive system for employees who excel in their respective roles. I will also carry out a reorganization of our administrative organization and relocation of our school facilities. Furthermore, I will strive to reflect the opinions of Sejong University's faculty, staff, students, and alumni in regards to the general management of our university.
-Second, I will be a 'practicing' 'president. We have run along and difficult race until this point to strengthen our education and research capacities.Owing to the outstanding performance of Sejong University's previous presidents, our university is taking a step further to become a world-level research centered university. We will continue to provide the cornerstone for world-level prestigious university by improving the quality of education and research, vitalizing post-graduate education, and advancing the evaluation management system.
In particular, we will continuously focus on Sejong University's various strengths which led us through significant growth over the years to strive to become a university wherein every professor, employee, student, and alumnus can be happy. I will try my very best to realize these goals by establishing 4 focal strategic directions based on 13 focal strategies.
- Third, I will be a 'dedicated' president. From this day forward, I will dedicate myself to Sejong University in order to create an environment wherein individuals who are devoted to the growth of human civilization, carry out creative academic research, and volunteer to our country and society are fostered. I firmly believe my experience working in close proximity to the education, research, and administration of our university for the last twenty years will give me the insight for me to carrying out the educational values of Sejong.

We have now gone past setting the goal of entering the Top 50 Asian Universities and are now embarked upon a big ship named 'Sejong University, a World-level Prestigious University', We must go forward, arms linked, as one family-faculty, staff, students, alumni, and parents alike-so that we can sail strong amidst the harsh wind and waves of this world.
Let us now go forward and strive to become a university that communicates, a university that has stable finances, a university that is transparent, and a university that practices its values. Moreover, let us individually strive to become members dedicate ourselves to the growth of our university-for us and not for me, together and not alone. I, also, will strive to 'communicate, practice, and dedicate myself for the duration of my term as president for the stabilization of our institution and entrance into the status of a world-level prestigious university.
I humbly ask for your continued love and support for Sejong University as we grow furthermore, and I pray that God's protection and blessings be with you and your family in the future. Thank you.
