The Department of Mathematics and Statistics aims to provide courses that are based on pure and applied mathematics as well as the basic statistical principles and computational skills that are essential for statistical analytical techniques. Mathematics and statistics are the foundation of natural sciences and engineering. They also have a wide range of applications. Mathematical thinking and data analysis skills are imperative in the rapidly developing scientific technological field. The importance of mathematics and statistics is increasing, because it is used in almost every field, such as manufacturing, finance, insurance, and IT, which is in line with the information age and social needs.
