Introduction
The hospitality and tourism industry has been growing rapidly in recent years, and we at Sejong University recognized the importance of this industry early on. We created the first undergraduate and graduate hotel and tourism-related programs in Korea. Through consistent research and education, we have contributed to the domestic tourism industry. Both in reputation and in practice, our university’s graduate tourism program is considered the most prestigious in Korea. As a part of the university’s education policy, we aim to produce creative tourism managers who will become leaders in this global age of limitless competition. To this end, together with the objective of strengthening the Korean tourism industry’s competitiveness, our graduate school was established in 1997.
Taking into account the unique characteristics of the hospitality & tourism industry, where cooperative relationships create a synergistic effect, the six majors within our graduate school have been established as convention and event management, travel and aviation management, golf and resort management, dietary culture industry, hotel management, and food and beverage industry. Upon completion of our programs, our students will receive a master’s degree related to their chosen major. 250 students are currently enrolled in this school, and in 2014, we increased our enrollment to meet the increasing demand for this graduate school.
The Graduate School of Tourism has implemented a well-rounded education system in order to produce tourism experts that are both theoretically educated and practically skilled. In order to enhance the workplace effectiveness, management skills, decision-making skills, and research skills and to instill an innovative mindset in our students, we have allocated experts from real businesses and professors with outstanding research capacity according to their strengths.
The research skills of our professors are ranked 2nd~4th in Asia. Not only do they provide students with educational opportunities, but also try to instill practical knowledge to students through various seminars and extra-curricular meetings.
In our school, there are numerous students with backgrounds in working in hotels and resorts, travel agencies, restaurants, casinos, event & leisure businesses, theme parks, government organizations and other prominent service industries. In addition, those who graduated from our school have gone on to actively utilize their newfound knowledge and skills to contribute to the development of this nation’s hospitality and tourism industry.
Furthermore, many of our graduate students choose to further their academic endeavors to pursue a doctorate degree. Here in our school where we produce the finest talent in the hospitality & tourism industry, I hope that you will realize your dream and potential.
