Visa Status Change

Exception: Short-term visitor from the below 21 countries, C-3-2/C-3-3/C-3-9 visa holders, D-3/E-9/E-10/G-1 visa holders

※ 21 countries: China, Philippines, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Mongolia, Thailand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt, Peru

- Required documents: Application form, passport, photo, application fee, certificate of admission, proof of financial support, proof of highest educational qualification, certificate of health examination

※ A student enrolled in an IEQAS accredited university having illegal stay ratio of less than 1% can submit certificate of admission only. Sejong University is a IEQAS accredited university from March 2018 to February 2021 and illegal stay ratio is less than 1%.

- Certificate of health examination: students from the following 19 countries need to submit certificate of health examination on Tuberculosis.

Visa Extension

Normally Alien Registration is given a maximum period of 2 years (undergraduate program) and it is students’ responsibility to renew before the expiry date. The expiry date is written on the back of the ARC and you can apply for a Student visa (D-2) extension 4 months in advance from your expiration date. Any application for extension after the expiry date will cause a financial penalty.

- Required documents: application form, passport, ARC, application fee, certificate of enrollment, transcript, certificate of attendance, Proof of financial support, certificate of health examination (if applicable)

Health Examination

Certificate of health examination, which is required for visa/alien registration, can be issued as follows.

Procedure:

  • - Go to Gwangjin-Gu Public Health Center, submit your application form and wait.
  • - When you name is called, go up to room No. 1 on the second floor to have your blood pressure checked. FYI, you can save some time if you know your height and weight.
  • - Then move to room No. 2 on the first floor to get an X-ray.
  • - When the staff tells you that the checkup is completed, you can leave.
  • - Wait for 3-4 days for the result. You need to bring two photos when you go back to the Health Center to hear the result.
  • Gwangjin-Gu Public Health Center

    - Location : 5-minute walk from Subway line No.2 Guui Station, Exit no. 1.- Open: on weekdays [09:00AM -18:00PM].

  • What to bring

    - Passport, fee, two photos.

Visit Reservation to Immigration Office

If you visit the immigration office without reservation, you may not be able to have your application processed directly, or experience inconvenience due to waiting for a long time.

  • - One-day advance policy: you should make a reservation at least one day prior to the potential appointment date.
  • - Cancellation of reservations: you can cancel a reservation until the day before the appointment date.
  • - Void reservation: if you do not appear until five minutes past the arranged time or designate a wrong office or counter, appointment becomes ineffective.

Online Application

Registered foreigners can make an online application for the below services without visiting the immigration office.

Alien Registration

Students who have already obtained student visa (D-2) and arrived in the country must apply for Alien Registration Card (ARC) within the 90 days from the arrival date. ARC will act as student visa (D-2) and Identification to who are already in Korea. It is illegal to stay in Korea for more than 90 days without being registered, regardless of your visa at entry.

※ Required documents: application form, passport, photo, certificate of enrollment, application fee, proof of residence, certificate of health examination (if applicable).

Alien Registration Card Re-issuance

If you lose your Alien Registration Card, you must report the loss to the Immigration Office within 14 days of the occurrence of loss. If NOT report within the given time period, you will be fined. To report the loss of your ARC and apply for re-issuance, please prepare the documents listed below and submit them to the Immigration Office.

※ Required documents: application form, passport, photo, application fee, proof of residence.

Reporting Changes in Alien Registration

Students with ARC must report to the immigration office if there has been any of the following changes occurred. The report must be done within the next 14 days from when the change has been occurred. If NOT reported within the 14 days, financial penalty will be charged.

※ Changes to be reported: Name, Gender, Date of birth, Nationality, Passport number, issuance or expiration date of passport, change of institution name, change of residence address.

On-campus Visa Service Center

Every semester, on-campus Visa Service Center is opened for various services to be reported to the immigration office.
