III. Important Notes for Fall 2019
1. Students are allowed to apply for international outbound exchange
program only one time regardless of region and select up to 5 universities
when applying. Screening criteria is GPA (40%) + Official Language Test score
(40%) + Document & Interview (20%) + Additional points (if
applicable).
2. The additional points will be given to those students listed below. In
case there are several items that apply to you, it will be recognized only up
to three (3) points in total.
- Three (3) points: Sejong Honors Program, 4-year Admission Scholarship,
and Military Scholarship students
- Two (2) points: Sejong Global Buddy, Summer/ Winter Outbound Program,
Intensive Language Program, Japanese Class run by OIA, and Student Council
Executive students
3. If you do not have any English language test scores, it is recommended
that you sit for the ITP.
4. The minimum language requirement of some universities changes. Please
refer to the table below for details.
5. Chinese student can apply for exchange program at Changchun University
of Science & Technology, Yanbian University of Science & Technology
in China, Dayeh University, and Fung Chia University in Taiwan, and Hong Kong
Polytechnic University, Hong Kong Baptist University in Hong Kong.
6. We have the Global Excellence Scholarship Program which provides with
full tuition waiver for one (1) semester and 2,000,000KRW of living allowance
for fall 2019 outbound exchange students. |

IV. Notice on Immigration Regulation to International
Students who leave Korea for internship, exchange and double degree
Recently, there was a very important change on immigration
regulation.
Sejong University should report the list of international students who left
Korea for internship, exchange and double degree. The starting/finishing date
of your exchange program is not important. The date is based on your arrival
and departure from Korea.

V. Program Types
> Exchange Student: Pay full tuition to home university; tuition to
partner university is fully waived
- Regional Expert: Pay 50% of
tuition to home university (50% waived as scholarship); tuition to partner
university is fully waived
- Global Excellence Scholarship
Program: Tuition to both home university and partner university for one (1)
semester is fully waived and 2,000,000KRW of living allowance is given.
> Visiting Student: Pay 30% of tuition to home university (70% waived as
scholarship); pay full tuition to partner university
> Dual Degree: Pay 30% of tuition to home university (70% waived as
scholarship); pay full tuition to partner university; students to transfer to
third year of the partner school's undergraduate program to earn a degree
from both universities
※ For schools that
offer a "Language Course," you may participate in the program as an
Exchange or Visiting Student majoring in language training.
※ The Number of
Students and/or Language Requirements, etc. are subject to change.
※ Partner university
has the authority to accept the shortlisted candidate as an exchange student
for their exchange program.

VI. Eligibilities
A. A Sejong University student
(Anyone currently in his/her first semester is also allowed to apply for this
program)
※ For transfer students – you can apply for this program
although it is your first semester at Sejong University.
※ You can still apply even if you are on a leave of absence at
the point of application. However, you must be an enrolled student for the
participating semester.
※ You must complete the last semester (immediate before
graduation) at Sejong University.
B. Student whose GPA (including the
2018 fall semester's one) is 3.0/4.5 or higher (in case of applying for
university in Asian countries, 2.5/4.5 is acceptable.)
C. Student who meets the language
requirement of each university (TOEIC minimum score is mostly 700 for
European universities and 600 for Asian universities. Please check the exact
requirement of each university below.)
D. No record of being disciplined
under the university rules.
E. No disqualifying reason for
international travel (conditions for visa application); must be able to
obtain a passport by the time of the interview.
F. If you are applying to a school
in Japan, you need to be able to participate in the Japanese language classes
offered by Sejong International Office, and also should reach a certain level
of Japanese language ability before you leave.
G. A printout of the screenshot
showing your test score is acceptable at the time of application, but you
should submit the original report by the time of interview. |

VII. Scholarship Programs for Outbound
Students>
※ You may receive
this in addition to your merit-based scholarship. However, the total amount
received may not exceed the amount of the tuition fee. You are not eligible
if you are participating in the study abroad program at your excess semester
(9th or more).
1. Regional expert student scholarship:Sejong University applies a 50%
waiver to the amount due to Sejong for the exchange students who study in
Vietnam, Indonesia, India and Philippines.
2. Visiting student scholarship: Visiting student is required to pay
tuition fees to both universities. In order to make it more affordable,
Sejong University applies a 70% waiver to the amount due to Sejong.

VIII. Global Excellence Scholarship
Program>
※ You are not
eligible if you are participating in the study abroad program at your excess
semester (9th or more).
> Purpose: To support the future global leaders and promote the
international interactions by providing the study abroad opportunities.
> Benefits: Full tuition waiver for 1 (one) semester and 2,000,000KRW as
living allowance
> Quota: 2 (two) students per college other than engineering / 4 (four)
students for engineering college
> Qualifications: Both Korean and international student are allowed to
apply for
1. GPA 3.5 or higher
2. Official language test score
stated below or higher
- Universities in USA &
Europe, or Asian universities that provide English track programs: TOEFL IBT
71 or IELTS 5.5
- Universities in China,
Hongkong, and Taiwan: HSK level 4
- Universities in Japan: JLPT

3. Student who has ever withdrawn
any programs run by Sejong international office before is disqualified.
4. Student who has ever been
selected for GE program before is not eligible for it.
5. Student who receive any
fundings related to study abroad program such as Erasmus+, Asem-Duo, Jasso,
and Mirae Asset is not eligible for it.

form, A4 2 pages or more, should be written in the language you will study at
host university)
2. Letter of Recommendation by
your department professor (attached form)

> Obligation: GE awardee should do at least 10 hours of volunteer work
assigned by International Office upon completion of the outbound exchange

IX. How to apply online
★ Go to:
portal.sejong.ac.kr and sign in → General Administrative Information → Page opens in a new tab (Student Service) → International Exchange → Outbound Student Management → Fill out the application
form
※ Be sure to update
your English name (same as in your passport), mobile phone number and email
address in the student information.
※ Be sure to choose
right university and program type (exchange, visiting, regular course,
language course, etc.). The university and program type are unchangeable
after the due date for online application.
※ When you apply
online, be sure to upload your study plan, letter of oath, agreement of use
of personal information form and official language test score.

X. Credit Recognition
A. Student is allowed to take courses of 6 to 18 credits for one
semester.
B. All overseas exchange credits will be recognized as P/N (except for the
dual-degree program).
C. The head professor of the student’s department will review the course
syllabus, etc. and give approval for credits for major courses up to 18
credits. For the required major course, it should be finally approved by the
Office of Registrar. Others than major courses will be recognized as credits
for liberal art.

1. New Jersey City
University: Students from departments of Music,
Design, Fashion Design and P.E. are able to apply for NJCU with lower English
language test score. In case of necessity, however, they may sit for an exam
and take the English language program (approx. USD3,600).
2. San Diego State University: Participants of SDSU short-term program, students from
Electronic Information Engineering, Software & Convergence Technology,
and Mechanical Engineering to be given priority.
3. Additional points are given to anyone who
have participated in Summer/Winter Study Abroad Program and then apply again
to the same university for Spring/Fall Outbound Exchange Program.
4. If you are applying to a school in Japan, you need to be able to participate in the Japanese language
training offered by Sejong and also reach a certain level of Japanese
language ability before you leave (excluding those who are highly skilled in
Japanese). Additional points will be given for anyone who have previously
participated in the training. |

| Q1-1. Can a student on a
leave of absence apply? |
| A1-1. Yes, as long as
the student re-enrolls before the semester begins. |
| Q1-2. Can a senior
student apply, too? |
| A1-2. Yes. If you spend
the second semester of your senior year studying abroad, you need to come
back to complete your last semester (the excess semester – your 9th) at
Sejong University before graduation. If you will be participating in the
program under ‘excess semester student’ status, you have to come back to
Sejong University to complete your last semester before graduation here. An
‘excess semester student’ is not eligible for the scholarship benefits and therefore
must pay the full tuition regardless of the number of credits to earn at the
host university. However, you cannot apply if you have met the credit
requirements for graduation and your status is “Completed”. |
| Q1-3. Can an
international student apply for the exchange student program? |
| A1-3. Yes. However, in case of applying in their home
country or applying to the nations/regions that hardly issue a visa for
international students may be excluded from getting assigned to. |

every university if I meet the qualifying condition? |
| A1-4. You should check
the specific qualifications that each university requires its applicant to
have because it varies by universities. Although your GPA scores higher than
3.0/4.5 and the official language test score is close to a full marks, you
are allowed to choose up to 5 universities. |
| Q1-5. I did sit for a language test but do not receive a
report card yet. Is it impossible to apply for exchange student program? |
| A1-5. You can apply for if it is possible to upload even
the screenshot of test score by the application deadline. If you do not have the minimum language test score which
the university you would like to apply for requires, you are
disqualified. |
| Q1-6. Can I know the validity dates of language test
score for application? |
| A1-6. Yes. It must be within 2 years from the
application deadline. |
| Q1-7. I have a bad score
in official language test. Would it be possible to submit it within the
online application dates, and then replace it with new one later? |

| Q1-8. My GPA is 2.49.
Can it be rounded off to 2.5, the minimum score for application? |

Korean, English, Chinese, and/or Japanese language. The interview format
depends on the number of applicants, and the topics and questions are not
open to the students. |

evaluate applicants' foreign language skills such as English /French /Chinese
/Japanese? |
| A2-3. Applicants will be
checked whether they are ready to take courses in the respective languages. |

know the selection criteria of shortlist. |
| A2-4. It is scored out
of 100 which is composed of 40% of GPA, 40% of official language proficiency
score, and 20% documents & interview. |
| Q2-5. I can select up to
5 universites. How is an individual student assigned to a particular
university? |
| A2-5. Student whose
total score (40% GPA + 40% Language + 20% Document & Interview) is higher
than others has priority in school allocation. If your 1st through 5th
universites are all assigned to other students with higher total score,
International office might be able to recommend another university by
assigning it to you. |
| Q2-6. I want to know
competition rate and/or cut-off score in shortlist selection. |
| A2-6. The competition
rate has been changing each year. For the last one year, the competition rate
for American universities was around 2:1, and the students who applied for
European & Chinese universities could attend the study abroad program on
the assumption that they didn't insist a particular university and/or nation.
For the Japanese universities, it was around 2:1, and the students who
applied for the other Asian universities could go study abroad wherever they
want. |

about the 'additional point system'. |
A2-7. The additional
points will be given to those students listed below. In case there are
several items that apply to you, it will be recognized only up to three (3)
points in total.
- Three (3) points: Sejong Honors Program, 4-year Admission Scholarship,
and Military Scholarship students
- Two (2) points: Sejong Global Buddy, Summer/ Winter Outbound Program,
Intensive Language Program, Japanese Class run by OIA, and Student Council

| Q3-1. How many credits
that I earned during study abroad can be recognized in Sejong? |
| A3-1. It can be
recognized up to 3 credits per course, and 18 per semester. |
| Q3-2. I would like to
know the credit recognition procedure. |
| A3-2. You should fill
out the credit transfer application form (download from the OIA website), and
bring it as well as the other supporting documents to the International
Office to ask for checking if they are correct. Then, get a signature from
both the chair of department and the dean of college on the documents, and
then submit them to the office of registrar (학적과) and office of teaching (수업과) respectively. |
| Q3-3. How do I get my
major credits recognized? |
| A3-3. The head professor
of the department and the Office of Registrar (학적과) will review the course syllabus, etc., and give approval for
major credits recognition up to 18 credits. |

| Q4-1. What is an
advantage of being selected as exchange student? |
| A4-1. You can study
abroad with paying tuition only to home university (tuition fee to host
university is exempted), thereby reducing the expense. The credits you earned
abroad can be recognized upon getting back to Sejong. Also, It would be
possible to add it to your resume as a kind of career data. |
| Q4-2. How can I get a
specific information about the partner universities? |
| A4-2. If you click the
name of university on the notification in SU website, you can see their home
page. It is recommended that you look for information such as qualifications,
curriculum and housing, etc. by yourself. |
| Q4-3. Is there any
university that has a major/ department which corresponds with mine in SU? |
| A4-3. It is recommended
that you check by yourself through the university website or Google. |
| Q4-4. I’ve been on an
exchange program once. Can I apply again? |
| A4-4. Yes. However, you
will be considered an first-time applicant only when you apply for an
university in a different sprachraum as the previous one (e.g.
English-speaking university and then Chinese-speaking university). The
first-time applicants will be considered first. |
| Q4-5. Are there any
scholarships available for outbound students? |
| A4-5. Yes, we have
'global excellence scholarship program' which provides with full tuition fee
waiver + 2,000,000KRW of living allowance and 'National Expert Program' which
provides with tuition to home university 50% waiver. You can also consider
the universities that provides with their accomodation free of charge. |
