Sejong is the Top Korean University for International Research Collaborations
International research rankings released on June 22 by the Center for Science and Technology Studies at Leiden University in the Netherlands (Leiden Rankings) once again show that Sejong researchers consistently publish a greater concentration of high-impact findings based on international collaborations than any other general universities in South Korea.
Sejong University tops in the 2022 Leiden Rankings for five consecutive years among general universities in Korea. The ranking is based on universities’ scientific contributions published in scholarly journals, as well as the impact those scientific findings have on the academic community. Impact is measured by the number of times the research is cited in subsequent journal articles.
This year, the ranking evaluated 1,225 universities globally that have released more than 800 research papers within the last four years (2017-2020). On the international chart, the university took the 394th place on the list, up 79 steps from the previous year.
Sejong University released 5,436 publications during the period and 729 of them were included in the top 10 percent of the most cited papers, which makes up 13.4 percent of the total.
“Sejong University has shown an eye-opening progress, making it into top 50’s on the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings two years in a row, and being the No.1 among local general universities on the Leiden Rankings for five consecutive years,” an official from Sejong University said.
“This year’s result is more meaningful than ever as it was achieved by every member of the university amid the tough pandemic times. Sejong University will spearhead efforts to be one of the top 100 universities in the world,” the official said.
