The university placed 41st in Asia, making top 50 in the continent, according to THE Asia University Rankings released on June 1st, 2022 by the Times Higher Education. The strong showing continues an upward trend for the university. This marks the second year in a row that the university maintains its top 50 position in Asia, rising from 46th last year. THE Asia University Rankings use the same 13 performance indicators as THE World University Rankings, but they are recalibrated to reflect the attributes of Asia’s institutions. The performance indicators are grouped into five areas: teaching (the learning environment); research (volume, income and reputation); citations (research influence); international outlook (staff, students and research); and industry income (knowledge transfer). Comprising 616 universities from 31 countries and regions, the rankings highlight the growing strength of higher education across the Asian continent. THE university evaluation has high public reputation worldwide by applying strict standards based on teaching, research, and internationalization. It is considered one of the top three university rankings globally along with QS World University Rankings and ARWU World University Academic Rankings. This year’s record is particularly impressive that Sejong earned a score of 90.2 in the citations, ranking 1st among Korean universities. This outcome is considered a reflection of the efforts of the university to recruit excellent faculty members and offer a great deal of support for research area over several years. Sejong’s continuous focus on the international mobility has resulted in a steadily excellent evaluation. It marked 6th in Korea, rising 3 spots from 9th last year. Over the past years, Sejong University has been pursuing qualitative improvement as well as quantitative growth of research articles through various research support systems. In order to improve the quality of the published papers, Sejong University has continuously reviewed and revised related systems since 2013 to strengthen support for published research in top academic journals. This has resulted in the achievement of ranking first among general universities in Korea for four consecutive years in the ‘2021 Leiden University Rankings’, which evaluates world universities based on the quality of theses. |
