Professor Han Heesup from the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management was selected as a 2021 Highly Cited Researchers (HCR), the world's top 1% researchers, which are selected based on the number of thesis citations. Professor Han enjoyed the honor of being selected as an HCR in the social sciences for three consecutive years from 2019. Professor Han is the most cited scholar in the world in the hotel tourism field based on SciVal, which is a statistic that is currently provided by the Web of Science. He is also a scholar with the second highest number of SSCI-level thesis achievements in the world in the hotel tourism field. Producing Good Results with the Support of Sejong University Professor Han is publishing high-level theses by focusing on the hotel tourism field. After completing his graduate studies at Kansas State University in the United States, Professor Han served as a visiting professor there. He then worked as a professor at Dong-A University in 2009, and he was appointed to Sejong University in 2013. Professor Han said that he was happy to be a professor at Sejong University, which has a good reputation in the Korean hospitality industry. Professor Han said, "I was able to achieve good research results thanks to the school's generous support, which includes an atmosphere that respects researchers, and enthusiastic students." Leading Research in the Tourism Field Professor Han is studying by combining keywords, such as technology, welfare, eco-friendliness, and the elderly with the hotel tourism field. His specific research topics include sustainable consumer behavior, green marketing, and corporate social responsibility. Most of the four keywords share the trend of the 4th industrial revolution era. Professor Han said that he was able to confirm that he is conducting research that is in line with the recent trends by being selected as an HCR. The number of citations in his papers on sustainable tourism is particularly high among Professor Han's studies. Professor Han said that he wants to make good use of the 4th industrial technology in order to contribute to the sustainable development of the tourism sector and also lead the development of the industry. A Professor who Exerts a Good Influence Professor Han said he gets good research ideas from students. Most of the topics, such as Muslim tourism, gastronomic tourism, and medical tourism started with good ideas from students. Professor Han is teaching students, but he learns a lot from them while he teaches them. Professor Han said that he is happy to be selected as an HCR, but he also felt that it is meaningful and rewarding when graduates exert a positive influence in academia or the industry. Professor Han said, “Whenever I am selected as HCR, I am very grateful to the co-authors and the graduate students. I plan to continue my research, so the tourism industry can continue despite the Covid 19 crisis. Also, I want to be a good professor with a good personality who has a good influence on the students.” |
