Introduction

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering aims to cultivate creative, competent computer technologists capable of contributing to the nation's industrial growth and to the development of leading-edge science technology in spirit of Sejong University's founding philosophy: ‘virtue, creativity, service, and action’. To this end, we emphasize building students’ basic and comprehensive concepts and application abilities in the field of both software (efficient operation of computer equipment) and hardware (computer architecture and design). In the hardware field, students learn the design of digital systems, computer structures, and microcomputers through a variety of practical training. In the software field, students learn basic programming languages (including C, Java, C++, C#, Java Script/HYML5/Server Script, etc.), operating systems, data structures, file structures, databases, programming language structure, algorithms, computer graphics, simulations, artificial intelligence, software engineering, computer networks, and information telecommunication. In order to efficiently carry out the aforementioned scope of research and practice, the department uses UNIX servers, workstations and PCs under the LAN/Internet environment and also has top-of-the line hardware equipment. To be a successful applicant for the Computer Science Engineering Department, logical thinking and enthusiasm for rigorous research is required. In addition, students who are majoring in computer science engineering will be very competitive in various fields including research institutes and cutting-edge industries, where demand for such talent is rapidly increasing. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering offers an engineering education certification program to which freshmen are automatically enlisted. If a student satisfies all the requirements and graduates, he/she will qualify as an engineering education certifier. Therefore, students should be familiar with the qualification conditions, and it is recommended that they get guidance from their academic advisors regarding what this entails.
